dir=\"auto\">until they graduate from college,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">they have someone &#8211;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">parents, teachers, and professors &#8211;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">holding them accountable.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">And once they get a \u201creal\u201d job, it doesn\u2019t get any better.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Most places of employment remove the need for people to think for themselves.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Instead, they have managers who \u201chold them accountable\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">and watch their every move to ensure they are actually working.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">If you want to break this cycle you&#8217;re going to need clear and specific processes designed to empower your people\u2026<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">and give them their brains back.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"fxk3tzhb b2rh1bv3 gh55jysx m8h3af8h ewco64xe kjdc1dyq ms56khn7 bq6c9xl4 eohcrkr5 akh3l2rg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t78\/2\/16\/32_20e3.png\" it.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">But it needed to be said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Back when I was constantly having to \u201chold my team accountable\u201d it wasn\u2019t their fault\u2026<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">it was mine.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">My actions created an environment where self-accountability wasn\u2019t needed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Think about it, why would someone need to hold themselves accountable (and think for themselves), when they had me doing it for them?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">So if you want a self-accountable team, you have to stop trying to \u201chold them accountable,\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">and instead give them the space and guidance they need to learn to hold themselves accountable.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Which leads to #3.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"fxk3tzhb b2rh1bv3 gh55jysx m8h3af8h ewco64xe kjdc1dyq ms56khn7 bq6c9xl4 eohcrkr5 akh3l2rg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t97\/2\/16\/33_20e3.png\" alt=\"3\ufe0f\u20e3\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/span> Trust.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Trust is THE key ingredient in high-performance, self-accountable teams.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Each time a team member makes a commitment, a space is created.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">That space rests between their commitment and the fulfillment of that commitment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">It is in this space that we have a choice\u2026<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">we can fill that space with trust &#8211;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">meaning we trust that the person will keep their commitment;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">or we can fill the space with suspicion &#8211;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">meaning we doubt the person will keep their commitment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Our teams must understand this space.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">They must understand it is their responsibility to consistently build trust by fulfilling their commitments,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">and that when they do not fulfill their commitments they are creating suspicion.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ready to STOP having to:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"fxk3tzhb b2rh1bv3 gh55jysx m8h3af8h ewco64xe kjdc1dyq ms56khn7 bq6c9xl4 eohcrkr5 akh3l2rg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t3a\/2\/16\/1f6d1.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\uded1\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/span> Do all the \u201cimportant\u201d work yourself?<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"fxk3tzhb b2rh1bv3 gh55jysx m8h3af8h ewco64xe kjdc1dyq ms56khn7 bq6c9xl4 eohcrkr5 akh3l2rg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t3a\/2\/16\/1f6d1.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\uded1\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/span> Babysit your team?<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"fxk3tzhb b2rh1bv3 gh55jysx m8h3af8h ewco64xe kjdc1dyq ms56khn7 bq6c9xl4 eohcrkr5 akh3l2rg\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
