Those were the first words out of his mouth\u2026<\/div>\n
and before I could respond he launched into a five minute lecture about how ALL his employees were lazy.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
His lecture ended with a question,<\/div>\n
but I\u2019m certain he meant it as a statement:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cDoes anyone show up excited and ready to work anymore?\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I was stumped.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Not because I didn\u2019t have an answer,<\/div>\n
but because I wasn\u2019t sure he would believe my answer.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
You see, five years ago I held those same beliefs:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u2714\ufe0f\"<\/span> everyone wants a paycheck, but no one wants to work<\/div>\n
\"\u2714\ufe0f\"<\/span> if it\u2019s gonna be done right, I\u2019m going to have to do it<\/div>\n
\"\u2714\ufe0f\"<\/span> if I\u2019m not present, then everything falls apart<\/div>\n
\"\u2714\ufe0f\"<\/span> no one wants to be held accountable<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And those beliefs resulted in me:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u2705\"<\/span> working 80+ hours each and every week<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"<\/span> constantly stressed out and frustrated<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"<\/span> always having to jump in and \u201csave the day\u201d<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"<\/span> never being able to trust anyone on my team<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"<\/span> having to prod and push them to reach their goals<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
My beliefs about my team members shaped my reality.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
As this gentleman blasted me with his litany of complaints about his team\u2026<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I struggled to relate.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
You see, my teammates today are nothing like what he was describing.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
My team is filled with truly amazing human beings.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u2764\ufe0f\"<\/span> They are both purposeful and passionate.<\/div>\n
\"\u2764\ufe0f\"<\/span> They serve our clients remarkably well.<\/div>\n
\"\u2764\ufe0f\"<\/span> Often putting our clients\u2019 needs over their own.<\/div>\n
\"\u2764\ufe0f\"<\/span> They show up willing and ready to serve.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And because of how amazing they are:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> I NEVER worry anymore. I know they are living out our values each day, because everyday I see the smiles and results they\u2019re getting for our clients.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> I have officially retired as a babysitter.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> I never have to \u201chold them accountable,\u201d they hold themselves and each other accountable.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> We are on a path of continual growth<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> Our revenue and profits are predictable and consistent<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> We continually have a flood of A-Players applying to be a part of our team<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u26ab\ufe0f\"<\/span> They regularly create and implement on ideas for how to grow our business (without needing my input)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
How\u2019d it happen?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
What made the difference?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
One word: CULTURE<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
We transitioned from a mediocre culture,<\/div>\n
with mediocre results\u2026<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
To a high-performance, self-accountable culture\u2026<\/div>\n
and the results speak for themselves.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But here\u2019s the most important part of all of this,<\/div>\n
this isn\u2019t about your team members,<\/div>\n
It\u2019s about YOU!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
You have to decide what type of culture you want\u2026<\/div>\n
after all, it is a choice.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Once you\u2019ve decided\u2026<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
the biggest obstacle you\u2019ll face isn\u2019t implementing changes,<\/div>\n
it\u2019s shifting your beliefs as to what is possible for your team.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Without guidance, it\u2019s the hardest work you\u2019ll do.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But trust me, it\u2019s worth it.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
