The Problem With Avatars

 If you want to make a lot more money as a freelancer, you need to abandon your customer avatar. 

Here’s what I mean by that. 

You see no one buys your product or service just because they’re between the ages of 45 and 65 with three kids at home, right? 

That’s crazy. 

They don’t buy because of that. 

They buy because they have a problem that they’re trying to solve or a desire that they’re trying to fulfill.

So what I would challenge you to do is sit down with a blank sheet of paper and write a journal page as if you are the person you’re attempting to sell to. 

In other words, you’re going to write the  journal page from their perspective. And when you do this, what you’re going to do is you’re going to write about the pain points, the frustrations, or the desires that you have.

And then what I want you to do once you complete that page is go write your ad, go write your email, go write whatever it is that you’re going to do to try to communicate with that person. 

You see, doing this exercise will give you the one magic word to marketing, and that is empathy. It will put you in their shoes and help you understand from their perspective.
